Synopsis

In 2016, the Institute for Education was invited to tender to formally evaluate a proposal for the reorganisation of Secondary Studies within the European School system. The main aim of this evaluation was to establish and demonstrate the impact of theÌýproposed new structure for secondary studies compared to the statusÌýquo.

Because the European schools are often looked to as a model for a broad-based, multilingual education, understanding and evaluating priorities for modernisation presented an opportunity to inform not only the future of the European School system, but broader educational and pedagogical practice across the continent. The resulting evaluation highlighted the shortcomings of the proposal under consideration, instead identifying alternative recommendations with the potential to address the system’s challenges in a more holistic manner
