About Public Policy

Public Policy works across the institution to build engagement and strengthen links between UCL researchers and public policy professionals. Our work creates opportunities for UCL’s world class research to inform public policy.

What is public policy at 911±¬ÁÏÍø?


UCL boasts many centres of expertise whichÌýare highly engaged in the public policyÌýsphere, including transport, health, energy, environment, planning, political science, lawÌýand engineering. An essential part of UCL’sÌýethos is to use our expertise to address theÌýpressing global challenges that humanityÌýfaces today and will face in the future.

Academic-policy engagement takes a range of forms, from providing research or expertise in person or through written briefings to ensuringÌýthat policy is underpinned by good evidence.

What does UCL Public Policy do?


UCL Public Policy is an initiative of the Office of the Vice-Provost (Research, Innovation & Global Engagement). The team aims to maximise the way in which UCL improves public policy, by enabling researchers to inform public policy with evidence by:Ìý

  1. offeringÌýmechanisms for public policy engagement
  2. translatingÌýresearch into public policy focused outputs
  3. connectingÌýresearchers and policy professionals
  4. deliveringÌýspecific public policy-focused projects
  5. drawingÌýtogether public policy-related activity at 911±¬ÁÏÍø
  6. conductingÌýresearch on the efficacy of academic-policy engagement
