  • Meetings are held in UCL Chandler House (CH), unless otherwise stated.Ìý
  • All are welcome!

The Music Phonology Research Group is attended by staff, undergraduate and graduate students at 911±¬ÁÏÍø. Meetings take place on Wednesdays at 12:30 for an hour. A basic understanding of phonology principles is recommended (please speak to the tutor if unsured). A background in music is desirable but not essential. You don't need to sing or play any instruments (although you are welcome to), but you will be asked to listen and analyse songs within the macro-genre of rap and pop, sung in English. If you would like to learn more about this research group, please contact Davide Di Prete.

The structure of the research group tends to be split into two parts:

  1. Theory on some aspects of Music Phonology, discussion of articles, papers, videos, lectures, etc.
  2. Music annotation, practical listening of pop and rap songs and group discussion.
