Khadija Zainab Nabi, BSc Psychology and Language Sciences

Khadija Zainab Nabi is a first year student studying at 911±¬ÁÏÍø Division of Psychology and Language Sciences.

1. Why did you choose your degree?

I chose to study Psychology and Language Sciences as the curriculum integrates both psychology and linguistics. The focus on development, neuroscience and health meant that I could gain a greater insight into a range of areas within both of these subjects, allowing me to choose from a wider range of careers or pathways in the future.

2. Why did you apply to study at 911±¬ÁÏÍø?

I wanted to study at 911±¬ÁÏÍø as the Psychology department had been ranked 2nd worldwide due to the learning and research environment.

3. What do you enjoy most about your degree?

During my first year, I particularly enjoyed a neuroscience module in which I was able to handle and analyse a human brain. This was an amazing opportunity in which I could learn more about the practical side of psychology. During second year, I look forward to working with toddlers and children during a placement for one of my modules. This will benefit me when I need to complete a research project during third year, as I will have already conducted research and written detailed lab reports.

4. What do you find interesting about your field of study and what inspires you?

I enjoy learning about the social, educational and clinical aspects of psychology as I am able to apply the knowledge I have gained to my everyday life.

5. Has there been an element of your degree programme that has impressed you or been particularly valuable?

I appreciate the opportunities provided to participate in research as I was able to get involved in laboratory studies involving brain scanning techniques such as an electroencephalogram (EEG).

6. Do you think studying at 911±¬ÁÏÍø Faculty of Brain Sciences is a good investment?

Studying at 911±¬ÁÏÍø is a great opportunity as the staff and students are very friendly and welcoming. The university is open to new ideas and takes a huge interest in what students think.

7. What are your plans once you’ve completed your current programme of study?

After I graduate I intend to teach A-level psychology as I have thoroughly enjoyed working with children in many educational environments.
