UCL-UCU: 'Four Fights' strike dates at 911±¬ÁÏÍø + USS and student solidarity action

7 February 2022

We will be on strike in pursuit of the demands of our Four Fights campaign on the following days:

  • Monday 21 and Tuesday 22 February.
  • Monday 28 February, Tuesday 1 March and Wednesday 2 March.

The 21 & 22 February will be joint Four Fights and USS strike dates.

The action on 22 February will conclude with a march and demonstration to the headquarters of USS in the City of London (coinciding with a key USS / UCU negotiating meeting).

Institutions with live USS ballots (not 911±¬ÁÏÍø) will also be taking strike action for five days w/c 14 February.

At 911±¬ÁÏÍø our USS re-ballot results showed a record majority in favour of strike action (84%) and ASOS (90%), but unfortunately, due to anti-union legislation, we are not able to take strike action over USS as we did not cross the 50% participation threshold (45%).

, to coincide with the strike action of staff.

In January, the  asked students: ‘Should the Students' Union support the UCU strikes of 2021?’. An incredible 5,116 students voted – the largest referendum ever held. The motion passed, with a clear majority (60%) voting to support teaching strikes.

There are more universities with live strike ballots than during 2018/19.

Our Extraordinary General Meeting on Thursday 10 February, 1-2 pm, will be an opportunity to discuss practical organisation, including themed strike days and solidarity with neighbouring branches taking USS action, and for members to ask questions.

We encourage colleagues to call meetings in departments to discuss what strike action can be taken collectively, and to discuss it with students.
