UCLIC researcher presents interactive force sensor at WEISS event

1 May 2024

Science of Surgery is WEISS annual community celebration event, where members of the public are invited to meet researchers and learn about the amazing projects they are working on

sensor

UCLIC Senior Research Fellow  exhibited an interactive force sensor designed to explore the most effective interface for helping users understand and control the force they apply. This tool is particularly useful for training individuals to apply specific force levels accurately. Originally developed by students Senta Neubueser and Go Ogata, the initial interfaces were further adapted and gamified by Dr Opie specifically for this exhibit. In clinical practice, this sensor aims to aid surgeons in applying the appropriate force during surgery, thereby minimising patient trauma.

The event attracted over 550 attendees, including many children and parents, who interacted with the device and voted for their favourite interface.
