• 5-year programme started in June 2021
• 2,449 East London young people will benefit

Stratford-based charity Foundation for Future London has awarded 拢1.7 million from its new Westfield East Bank Creative Futures Fund to New Talent-Future Leaders, a major programme whose aim is to create a high-quality talent pipeline and inclusive employment opportunities for East London鈥檚 diverse young workforce, specifically in Hackney, Newham, Tower Hamlets and Waltham Forest.

It will provide a major boost to East London鈥檚 young jobseekers, set against a context of widespread youth unemployment and the need for creative and cultural sector led recovery for London post-Covid-19, as well as to local businesses and organisations who want to employ a talented and diverse workforce.

New Talent-Future Leaders听is a 拢3 million 5-year creative employment programme, led by a consortium of London鈥檚 major arts, cultural and education institutions 鈥� Sadler鈥檚 Wells, UCL East, UAL London College of Fashion, BBC and V&A East 鈥� who make up the new East Bank cultural district in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

The consortium will work in partnership with children and youth charity A New Direction, who has been appointed by London Legacy Development Corporation to operate the .

The programme will be a key vehicle for delivering the Mayor of London鈥檚 skills and inclusive growth priorities, making sure all Londoners, regardless of background, can benefit. The programme will offer:

• apprenticeships, internships, and other employment, training, and skills development opportunities in the higher education sector and cultural, creative, fashion and technology industries.
• CPD programme for teachers in East London schools (East Education).

A strong component of the New Talent-Future Leaders听programme is its commitment to inclusion, access and equity, co-design with young people and collaborative approach amongst local organisations.

Employers will be able to benefit from increased diversity in the workplace as well as offering best practice standards in fair and inclusive employment, professional development and payment of the London Living Wage.

Working with the Good Growth Hub, the programme will support employers to open up opportunities in the cultural, creative, fashion and digital technology sectors. Initiatives such as the Shared Training and Employment Programme (STEP) and the Creative and Cultural Opportunities Programme (CCOP) will help tackle some of the barriers many local young people face when trying to access employment and training opportunities in these growing sectors.
