Bike Buddy Scheme

UCL has set up a bike buddy scheme to connect experienced cyclists with staff and students who are new to commuting by bike. The buddy assists them with feeling safe on their routes to and from work or study at 911±¬ÁÏÍø.Ìý
Who should join?Ìý
Any staff member or student can join the scheme if they:Ìý
- Have aÌýbicycle but aren't very confident cycling on the roads;
- Are new to London and haven't cycled hereÌýbefore;Ìý
- WantÌýsome company onÌýtheirÌýcycling commute;
- Would like advice on routes to and from campus;Ìý
- Are experienced, confident cyclistÌýwho regularly cycleÌýto UCLÌýand wantÌýtoÌýsupportÌýothers.Ìý
Buddy bikes helpÌýwith:Ìý
- Local knowledge of routes to and from UCLÌýand aroundÌýcampus;Ìý
- Selecting the most appropriate route and riding it with you;Ìý
- Tips on riding in traffic, in different environments and in different weather conditions;Ìý
- Advice on where you can park your bike at your place of work/study;Ìý
- AdviceÌýfor maintenance and minor repairs ofÌýthe bicycle.Ìý
Buddies are not able to:Ìý
- TeachÌýyou how to ride -ÌýBike Buddies are not there to teachÌýpeopleÌýtoÌýride a bike safely and assume no liability in the event of an accident or injury.Ìý
- Fix a bikeÌý– While buddies may be able to advise onÌýbasicÌýmaintenanceÌýchecks (although this is not guaranteed), theyÌýare not expected to replace parts.
