Module selection
You will be allowed to selectÌýthe modules within your course once you have completed the online pre-enrolment. You will be contacted via email regarding theÌýselection of your modules and will do this viaÌý using your UCL email address and password to access the system.
Module catalogue
The UCL Module Catalogue is a guide to all modules on offer at 911±¬ÁÏÍø. It gives you a good idea of what you may be able to apply for but please be aware that due toÌýlimited availability, some of the modules will subsequently become unavailable by the time you come to selecting them.
Module selection approval
Once you have submitted your module selections they must be approved by your UCL parent academic department. If you are takingÌýan option outside your own department then your selections will also need to be approved by the UCL academic departments which teachÌýthose modules.
You can check the status of these approvals through the ‘More information about your module selections…’ link under ‘My Modules’ on your UCL Portico account.
Module selection declined
Unfortunately, you cannot appeal this decision.
Whilst we aim to maximise the number of students who are accepted onto their first choice of modules, the large number of students across UCL (over 50,000) and the complexity of the programmes and modules we offer mean that, unfortunately, there will inevitably be circumstances where we need to decline module selections, and these decisions must be considered final.
In such case you will be able to select an alternative module in the ‘My Modules’ container on Portico.
Module selection changes
Should you wish to make any changes to your modules once they have been approved, you can do so via the 'Request change of module' button in the 'My Modules' container on Portico.
If you have any questions regarding module selection, your first action should be to contact your UCL parent academic department. They are the ones who will be approving your module selections and will be able to give you the most accurate advice.
Affiliate tutors and departmental administrators
Each affiliate studentÌýis assigned an affiliate tutor for their time at 911±¬ÁÏÍø. The affiliate tutor performs a very similar role to that of a personal tutor in helping you develop an independent style of learning which suits you. They can also support you and provide advice if you are struggling with your work at 911±¬ÁÏÍø. Please remember though that they areÌýnot able to work one-to-one with you to prepare specific pieces of academic work.Ìý
Your departmental administrators are there to facilitate the smooth functioning of UCL's academic departments and can be a very valuable source of information, particularly if it is about administrative processes within departments. If you have questions before you arrive at 911±¬ÁÏÍø, if may be more beneficial to contact them.
Erasmus+ Learning Agreements and Erasmus+ Arrival/Departure Certificates
If you are studying at 911±¬ÁÏÍøÌýas an Erasmus+ affiliate student, you may have anÌýErasmusÌýform that needs signing.
Erasmus+ Learning Agreements
Erasmus+ Learning Agreements need to be signed by your UCL academic department. Find your contact within your UCL academic department.
Erasmus+ Arrival/Departure Certificates
Erasmus+ Arrival/Departure Certificates can be signed, stamped and dated by theÌýStudent Enquiries CentreÌýwhen you arrive.ÌýYou can do this via askUCL or in-person.Ìý
Please note that you will need to be fully enrolled before you get this signed.
You will also need yourÌýErasmus+ Arrival/Departure CertificateÌýsignedÌýwhen you leave UCL. TheÌýStudent Enquiries CentreÌýcanÌýdo this for you too.
If you choose to leave UCL before the official end date of your course and need your Erasmus+ Arrival/Departure Certificate signing, you should first get written permission from:
- your UCL academic department;
- your home institution.
Make sure to include all given permission as email attachments or print-outs in your communication with theÌýStudent Enquiries CentreÌý±¹¾±²¹ askUCL or in-person.
International Student Affiliate Mixers
The International Student Affiliate Mixers are run for all new affiliate/exchange students starting at 911±¬ÁÏÍø in September and January and give you a chance to meet other UCL affiliate students, both in your department and in others. The next will be held during September 2024's International Week.
Exams and asessments
For affiliates studying at 911±¬ÁÏÍø, there are 2 main exams and assessment periods.
Term 1
Affiliates studying for just Term 1 (September to December), yourÌýexams/assessments will take place either at the end of December or at the beginning of January. For January ones, these will almost certainly be assignment submission style asssessments and will not require you to be at 911±¬ÁÏÍø in person.
Term 3
Affiliates studying at 911±¬ÁÏÍø for the full academic year (September to June) may have exams/assessments both at the end of Term 1 and in Term 3 or in just one of them. Affiliates studying at 911±¬ÁÏÍø for Term 2 and Term 3 (January to June) will have your exams/assessments in Term 3.
Term 3 is the main exams and assessment period for all students at 911±¬ÁÏÍø. Most students won't have classes like their do in Term 1 and Term 2. This is because students are expected to be preparing for examsÌýor writing their assignments. Although your timetable will look empty, this time period is very important and your UCL academic department will have extra support available for you during this period.
Department information and Meet Your Department sessions
Find your UCL academic department below for information on your affiliate tutor, departmental administrator and any Meet Your Department sessions which may be taking place.
The Meet Your DepartmentÌýsessionsÌýareÌýanÌýopportunity to meet your affiliate tutor, departmental administrators and other affiliate students in your UCL academic department. Meet Your Department sessions are runÌýevery September and January.
Please note that not all departments will holdÌýMeet Your Department sessions. You may instead be invited for a 1-1 introduction with your affiliate tutor or departmental administrator or asked to join a wider induction session.
Please remember that whilst here, you will have access to both UCL's and your home institution's support services. Any issues you encounter whilst studying at 911±¬ÁÏÍø and living in London, can be discussed with both institutions.
