Education and Student Support Office (ESSO)
The Education and Student Support Office is based in Room 341 inÌý, 16 Taviton St, and provides administrative support to SSEES students and academics.
The Programme Administrator for your programme of study is based in the ESSO. This is where you can speak to them face to face, submit various forms or ask any academic support questions.
Contacting the office
Emailing your Programme AdministratorÌýis the preferred and most effective method of communication with the Education and Student Support Office. The ESSO aims to provide a response or an update email to all student queries within 3 working days.
While contracts will vary, UCL’s core working hours are Monday to Friday, 10:00Ìýto 16:00, with the exception of Tuesday, where the office opens at 10:30. You should not expect academic and administrative staff to be available, check e-mail, and/or to respond to non-emergency requests outside these hours. For out-of-hours welfare support, please see .Ìý
When emailingÌýESSO, please provide the following information to enable the Programme Administrator to respond to your query as quickly as possible:
Full Name
Student Number
Degree Programme
Year of Study (e.g. First year student)

1.2 The relationship between department and faculty
The School of Slavonic and East European Studies, as a truly multidisciplinary department, belongs to the Faculty of Arts & Humanities: one of UCL's 11 faculties.
The Faculty of Arts & Humanities (A&H) comprises a range of departments and research institutes centering Humanities and the Arts in their subject matter.ÌýThe Faculty's academic and administrative management works closely with that ofÌýSSEES to ensure consistent and high quality education provision and support. SSEES also works closely with specific departments within the FacultyÌý(the School of European Languages, Culture and Society, or SELCS, and the Department of History) in orderÌýto offer the courses and modules currently available.
Most issues concerning your studies will be dealt with by SSEES in the first instance, but some matters, particularly those affecting your registration as a student (e.g. a change of programme or interruption of study), may need to be referred to the Faculty Office for approval. The Faculty Tutor oversees all teaching and learning matters, as well as student care issues for taught programmes in the Faculty.
Where necessary, ESSO will usually contact Faculty on your behalf. However, key contacts can be found at the link below:
