GMP Facility

The first of its kind at 911±¬ÁÏÍø, the Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) Facility is an academic radiopharmaceutical unit for the production of injectable diagnostic agents for imaging in man. Custom-designed for on-demand production of radiotracers, the GMP Facility is envisaged to greatly increase the potential applications of positron emission tomography (PET), both for diagnostic imaging of patients and as a tool for clinical studies.

The facility was jointly funded by UCL and the University College London Hospitals Biomedical Research Centre. The state-of-the-art unit was established in 2016, and licensed by the MHRA in 2017 (Specials’ and Investigational Medicinal Products). We specialize in the manufacture of radiotracers with short-lived nuclides as well as bespoke diagnostic agents for cutting-edge imaging techniques, including hyperpolarised magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The facility supports translational experimental medicine studies across UCL, UCL Hospitals and a number of collaborating institutions in South East England.
