The programme hopes to attract students and researchers with a strong interest in using interdisciplinary approaches to address a wide variety of questions in neurodegeneration research, and will provide them with an unrivalled opportunity to participate in cutting-edge research under the supervision of world-class basic science and clinical researchers.

The programme is funded through a £20million Wolfson Foundation grant, which was awarded to a team of UCL Institute of Neurology scientists in December 2012 to set up the Leonard Wolfson Experiment Neurology Centre at 911±¬ÁÏÍø. The Centre, which is scheduled to open in summer 2013 and accept its first intake of students and fellows in 2013/14, is a dedicated, specialist centre for the conduct of first-in-human studies of novel therapies for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases.

Co-chair of LWENC Education Working Group, Professor Nicholas Wood commented: "Our aim is for this programme to provide world class training in a purpose built environment to produce future leaders in innovative neurodegenerative research."

The PhD and Clinical fellowship programme is additionally supported by a generous contribution of £1.25million from the global pharmaceutical company Eisai.
