More environmental awards for UCL Chemical Engineering professor

9 January 2007

Professor Stefaan Simons, UCL Chemical Engineering, collected two awards last month on behalf of Carbon8 Systems Ltd, a company of which he is Director of Engineering.

Carbon8 Systems Ltd

Carbon8 was set up in February last year to commercialise a technology Professor Simons helped to develop with researchers at the University of Greenwich at Medway. Accelerated carbonation technology treats and converts industrial wastes into either construction material or less hazardous waste for cheaper disposal.

Carbon8 was given the Innovative Climate Change Technology Award, as well as winning the title 'Kent Environment Business of the Year', at a gala ceremony at the East Malling Conference Centre. These accolades add to the 2006 IChemE Green Chemical Technology Award, which the company received in October last year.
