UCL dentist honoured in Thailand

20 February 2007

Professor Kobkan Thongprasom, an alumna of the UCL Eastman Dental Institute, has been made a Knight Grand Cordon (Special Class) of the Most Exalted Order of the White Elephant - the highest royal decoration in Thailand.

The award was granted on 5 December 2006, the King's birthday.
After early studies at the Faculty of Dentistry at Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Professor Thongprasom completed an MSc in Oral Medicine at the UCL Eastman Dental Institute in 1988. She then returned to Chulalongkorn, where she is now the senior member of the Oral Medicine Department. She sits on the editorial boards of many leading dentistry journals, and is a member of the executive committee of the International Association of Oral Medicine (IAOM).

This is not the first time Professor Thongprasom has been recognised by the Thai royal family; in 2001 she was made a Knight Grand Cordon (Special Class) of the Most Noble Order of the Crown of Thailand.
