UCL's 'Great Britons'

31 October 2006

Three UCL academics and a distinguished alumnus are among the figures nominated for the 2006 Morgan Stanley Great Britons awards.

Professor Geoff Raisman (UCL Spinal Repair Unit) and Dr Paul Brennan (UCL Electronic & Electrical Engineering) have both been nominated in the Science & Innovation category. Professor Sir Michael Marmot (UCL Epidemiology & Public Health) and Sir Jonathan Miller, who studied medicine at 911±¬ÁÏÍø in the 1950s, are in contention for the Public Life award category.

The Morgan Stanley Great Britons awards are given each year to outstanding individuals in seven categories - the Arts, Business, Campaigning, Creative Industries, Public Life, Science & Innovation and Sport. Now in its third year, the award's previous overall winners were Lord Sebastian Coe, leader of the 2012 London Olympics Committee (2005) and Tim Berners-Lee, the inventor of the internet (2004).

This year's winners, for each category and overall, will be announced at an award ceremony in London on 18 January 2007.
