"I am delighted to join UCL and to be given responsibility for developing research and educational activities at 911±¬ÁÏÍø in enterprise, innovation, and the commercialisation of new technologies," said Professor Currall. "Furthermore, part of my effort also will be devoted to cementing the nascent relationship between UCL and London Business School, which is an extraordinarily promising partnership."

The centre supports research and teaching that provides insight into management issues faced by technology-intensive organisations in order to prepare scientists and engineers for leadership roles in the next generation of technology-led industries.

Teaching activities at the centre will focus on post-experience, executive masters programmes, designed for small groups of engineering, technology or scientific professionals. CEMI also supports a range of continuing professional development (CPD) and postgraduate programmes, designed for younger professionals setting out on their management career, including the MSc in Technical Ventures and Foundations of Entrepreneurship and CPD programmes in Project Management.

Professor Currall joins the Centre from Rice University, USA, where he was the William and Stephanie Sick Professor of Entrepreneurship in the School of Engineering. His academic appointments at Rice included the Jones Graduate School of Management, Department of Statistics and Department of Psychology. He was a grantee on $15million in research funding including four grants from the National Science Foundation.

At Rice, Professor Currall was Founding Director of the Rice Alliance for Technology and Entrepreneurship, which was an education and research centre that was a partnership of the Schools of Engineering, Management and Natural Sciences. Since 1999, the Alliance assisted in the launch of over 160 new technology start-up companies, which raised in excess of $200million in equity capital. In 2004, Professor Currall received Stanford University's Price Foundation Innovative Entrepreneurship Educator Award, selected by the Stanford Technology Ventures Program. In 2005, he won Ernst & Young's Entrepreneur of the Year Award® (Supporter of Entrepreneurship category, Gulf Coast-Houston region).
