It is not the case as Gawain Little suggests (Letters, February 20) that "Czech Communist Youth will cease to be legal unless it renounces its belief in communism".
The group in question is being required by the Czech interior ministry to change one phrase in its statutes - its commitment to "revolutionary overthrow of capitalism". It is scarcely unreasonable in a country which has experienced more than its share of totalitarian violence from both left and right to ask that legal political organisations should be clearly committed to peaceful, democratic politics.
