Press release: Solo living is a potential environmental time bomb

The rise in one-person households, which is expected to account for 72 per cent of annual household growth between 2003 and 2026, is having a serious impact on the environment, according to a report published today by Dr Jo Williams, UCL Bartlett School of Planning.
In the journal 'Environment, Development and Sustainability', Dr Williams suggests that the rising youth and wealth of people living alone are likely to cause a consumption crisis that must be countered through collective housing, occupancy tax and targeted advertising campaigns.
