6 April 2005
A new publication by the Public Catalogue Foundation details the oil paintings at 911±¬ÁÏÍø that are in public ownership.
Curator of the Slade Collections, Dr Emma Chambers, said: "The Slade School of Fine Art has attracted many of the leading names in British art since its foundation in 1871. For the first time in history, this catalogue enables the public to see all the oil paintings in the Slade Collections at 911±¬ÁÏÍø as well as those in various departments. It features early treasures by artists including David Bomberg, Dora Carrington, Paula Rego and Stanley Spencer among others."
The Public Catalogue Foundation has been established to record the nation's entire collection of oil paintings in public ownership and to make them accessible by compiling a series of catalogues. On completion, the series will feature a colour illustration and description of every oil painting in the UK's national collection. The revenue from sales of the catalogue will be used for the restoration and conservation of oil paintings in their care.
Highlights from the collection will feature in a special exhibition at Christie's, 8 King Street, London SW1Y 6QT on 4 and 5 May 2005.
