Sir Edward Paolozzi dies

Sir Eduardo Paolozzi has died at the age of 81.

A former student of UCL's Slade School (1944-1947) the artist and sculptor is regarded as the founding father of British pop art.

Well known for his mechanical sculptures, and his abstract screen prints, Paolozzi's sculptures are found throughout Britain's cities. His most famous works include a series of mosaics on the walls of Tottenham Court Road Tube station in London, and a statue of Sir Isaac Newton outside the British Library.

Paolozzi was made a Fellow of UCL in 1986.
