Description

Module description

This module will consider literature in relation to other art forms, and will provide you with an introduction to the formal and material specificities of different artistic media, such as film, photography, performance and music. We will examine some influential theoretical frameworks and scholarly debates associated with word, image and sound, and we will pay particular attention to the ways these terms interact in intermedial creative exchanges. Case studies to be analysed will vary from year to year, but may include ekphrasis, literary-photographic works, filmic-photographic and filmic-painterly relations, performance and sound art, digital culture and new media. Lectures and seminars will focus on select artistic works and set theoretical readings.Ìý
