This is a compulsory module on MA in Mathematics Education and must be taken during your programme of study. The module addresses significant issues in mathematics education at all levels of education. The role of mathematical knowledge in the curriculum and in teaching and learning is a major theme, as is the role of the social context in which mathematics and mathematics education are done. This includes consideration of mathematics in the workplace and in different cultural settings as well as issues of gender, social class, language and assessment. Participants are introduced to the research literature and consider how different orientations to mathematics, learning and teaching affect research, policy and practice.Ìý
Pre-requisites: A degree in a mathematics-rich subject or education, or equivalent experience teaching mathematics.Ìý
