Description

This module will offer CenTraS students the unique opportunity to gain professional, “real-life” translation experience under the guidance of CenTraS staff/alumni and industry professional mentors. We will work with “real” clients and the students’ work will be delivered to the client at the end of the project, thus counting as professional translation experience.

Students will be guided through each stage of the professional translation process, from liaising with the client via email to preparing quotations and invoices. After initial generic lectures, students will be divided into smaller groups and will be assigned a CenTraS alumnus or industry professional mentor, who will run one online session with the group and provide the students with feedback on sections of their translations.

The module will consist of 10 2-hour classes, including generic lectures, workshops and mentoring sessions. The final two classes will consist of student presentations on their projects and a discussion of lessons learned.

Students will be assessed on an end-of-project report, written in English and totalling 3,000 words.
