Description
This module explores global contemporary shifts in sustainable education to critically discuss what kinds of strategies, policies and practices are likely to develop in the future. Within this context, it focuses on sustainability as a ‘grand challenge’ for society and education, as a key component of the curriculum and as central to estate planning, design and management. It investigates tools 1) for assessing and improving sustainability in buildings and estates and in learning and wellbeing across schools and universities (including education for sustainable living (ESL)); 2) to consider the implications for economic, social and environmental change; and 3) to generate strategies for more sustainable futures. Students will undertake a problem-based study in groups, to analyse and report back on intended solutions.
The core aim of this module is to engage critically with current strategic developments in education, to understand the linkages and interdependencies across policy, pedagogy and estate and the potential strategies for, and impacts of, sustainable thinking throughout.
