Description
This module focuses on a case study of an English language learner. It covers the study of language and discourse in preparation for an analysis of a learner's performance in the four skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening, and the setting of learning objectives for that learner. It also looks at factors that can affect the learning of an individual and how knowledge of these can be addressed in the classroom.
In this module you will be:
- exploring the main linguistic features of the English language, which underpin the assessment, planning and teaching of English
- critically analysing discourse at text, sentence and word level for diagnostic purposes
- understanding and reflecting on the implications of personal, social, cultural and educational factors affecting language acquisition and learning
- analysing and evaluating the importance of context in language use
- critically analysing features of language use, using key grammatical, lexical and phonological terms appropriately
This is one of the core compulsory modules for the TESOL Pre Service MA programme.
