Description

Summary:

The aim of this module is to explore the meanings, policy pathways and practical outcomes of sustainability measures in residential developments, from strategic ‘city planning’ and neighbourhood-level residential planning through to ‘micro’ aspects of design in new housing and housing retrofit programmes. The module will equip students with a rounded background in the principles of sustainable housing design and will focus on producing new, sustainable housing in different climates. Students will consider what sustainability means, how different climates affect designs and also how to overcome barriers to the successful implementation of sustainability measures. The module is self-contained and be suitable for students from other faculties with a background in sustainability in housing and the built environment. The module provides a path for current and prospective housing professionals to specialise before their dissertation.
