Description
Aims:
You will explore key areas of teaching and learning mathematics. You will engage with a range of relevant research in the field of mathematics education and apply this critically to develop insight into classroom practice.
Outcomes:
You will be introduced to mathematics educational research that addresses students鈥� learning across a range of broad domains in school mathematics. The sessions also incorporate pedagogical themes that cut across all domains of mathematics, such as rich questioning and collaborative learning. You will be encouraged to develop a critique of the research, and associated theories of learning, gaining an appreciation of the values, assumptions and beliefs that underlie them, their limitations, and how they have been applied to the development of education policy and classroom practice. You will be introduced to curriculum documentation, policy documents and reports, and you will relate these to the research literature, your own previous classroom experiences and the practice you observe in school.
Assessment: 5000 assignment
You will demonstrate this research and engagement by completing an assessment titled: Mathematics, Curriculum and Pedagogy.
