Description

Aims:

You will bring together theory and practice in teaching geography, by reflecting on your planning, preparation, teaching and evaluation of a sequence of lessons. Specific sessions cover a full range of the components of geography teaching and learning, including: curriculum content and purpose though the key concepts of place, space, interconnection and environment; how progression is achieved; assessment; inclusion; and varied teaching approaches (pedagogies).

Outcomes:

You will:

- explore different aims, purposes and practices of geography education to develop your own vision;

- develop the understanding and practical skills for lesson planning, catering for different students' needs and how to structure geographical learning;

- critically reflect on ideas about teaching and learning geography, and how those ideas are put into practice;

- consider how different children learn geography, and how you can use your subject knowledge for teaching geography effectively and inclusively.
