Description
This course examines the neural mechanisms underlying human social behaviour. It draws on methods from cognitive neuroscience and research questions from social psychology to examine fundamental aspects of how people interact in the world.
Module aims: This module aims to give students an up-to-date introduction to the fundamentals of social neuroscience. Lectures cover – neuroscience methods; social perception; mirror neurons; emotion and empathy; conduct disorder; theory of mind; autism.
Module objectives: Students will develop their knowledge and understanding of: · The ways in which neuroscience methods (fMRI, EEG, TMS and others) can address social questions · The brain mechanisms of social behaviour · Controversies in social neuroscience · Disorders of social cognition including autism, conduct disorder and prosopagnosia
Key skills provided by the module: Students will talk part in interactive discussions and will write an essay. They will gain an understanding of social neuroscience methods and current research in this area.
