Description

Independent research projects in subjects that are relevant to each student’s interests and career progression are offered. The projects are tailored to suit both full and part-time study and can be clinical or laboratory-based.

The project proposals are hosted by active research groups across the Division or UCL (at campuses in Bloomsbury, Royal Free, Stanmore, Northwick Park Institute of Medical Research) and vary each year depending on the priorities of the research group. Topics may be clinical or basic science, encompassing the fields of cancer intervention, nanomedicine, vascular surgery, musculoskeletal biology, stem cells etc. Examples of current titles include: Anatomic progression of disease following aortic progression; siRNA conjugated iron nanoparticles as therapeutic carriers for specific targeting of cancer cells; Application of OCHRA to assess generic, robotic surgical skills during training

OUTCOMES:

Students develop a wide range of research skills including: experimental design, data mining, laboratory and analytical techniques, investigative and statistical analyses; while gaining knowledge of scientific principles and critical appreciation of scientific literature. The completed project imparts further skills in communicating science both verbally and by writing. We strongly encourage students towards submitting their work for presentation at conferences and for publication.
