Description
This module explores the development process as a practice based management activity. The topics explored include: models for development, stakeholders, regulatory frameworks, finance for development, development feasibility, and project & operations. Students will explore these topics through lectures and group seminars discussions of relevant journal papers. This exploration critically reviews the theoretical work in the context of practice, familiarises you with key decision points in development, and addresses development as a management activity. These seminars provide the background for shaping, structuring, and generating your assignment.
The formative assessment work includes a self-assessment exercise that reviews past papers against the marking criteria and group seminar discussions of your essay topic, its focus, and your question. The summative assessment includes two small exercises in weeks 3 and 5 that support the development of your final essay.
On completion of the module you should be able to: understand the general components of real estate development, apply theoretical concepts from the real estate literature to practice based projects, and analyse case studies using conceptual frameworks of development. The general knowledge base of real estate development together with the practice research skills of analysing case studies provide a means of enhancing your problem identification skills, decision making skills and judgement on real estate topics.
