Description
In this module, students will carry out supervised projects in the broad domain of policing. They will have the opportunity to practise different research methods and apply the knowledge they have gained over the course of the Security and Crime Science programme. Starting with a project brief, students will learn how to: 1) organise a project into a set of tasks 2) critically assess different research methods that might be applied to achieve project objective(s) 3) develop instruments effectively to scope the problem and collect necessary data and 4) apply relevant statistical methods to generate the sought-after outcomes. Finally, students will learn how to interpret the results of their work, and communicate findings effectively. The contact time for this module will be compressed into a one week block, through short lectures and briefing sessions, field work and lab sessions.
