Description

Description: Professional Issues for Paediatric Neuropsychologists

This module describes issues associated with the practice of paediatric neuropsychology within different professional contexts, such as clinical neuroscience centres, child and adolescent mental health services, educational systems, forensic work, and medico-legal work. The interface with multidisciplinary professional roles is described. Ethical issues and potential dilemmas relevant to neuropsychological practice are considered. As clinical neuropsychology training is open to educational and clinical psychologists, students from different professional backgrounds are encouraged to consider the contributions of various training routes towards clinical neuropsychology practice.

The content of this module is delivered in accordance with the British Psychological Society 2019 Clinical Neuropsychology Standards for Accreditation (Paediatric Programmes).

Learning Objectives and Outcomes

After completing this module, you should be able to:

  • Understand the differing roles of paediatric neuropsychologists within a range of professional settings and how their work may overlap with that of multidisciplinary colleagues.
  • Consider potential ethical dilemmas within clinical case work and describe appropriate professional pathways for working through such dilemmas.
  • Describe the similarities and differences between the roles of Clinical Psychologists, Educational Psychologists and Paediatric Neuropsychologists.

This is a core module for the MSc/PG Diploma in Applied/Clinical Paediatric Neuropsychology.

Teaching and Learning Methods

Teaching is delivered through live face-to-face, online and pre-recorded lectures, alongside learning through readings and tutorials, discussion, and/or seminar sessions.
