Description
In this module you will learn the main techniques used to measure body composition,Ìýenergy expenditure and dietary intake in clinical and community settings. One of the objectives will be to use simple experimental techniques to explore the relationship between lifestyle and body composition and between activity and energy expenditure. The module includes a mixture of taught and practical sessions where you will experience the techniques for nutritional assessment first-hand.
Topics may include: Concepts of human body composition. Anthropometrics - scaling the human frame in health and disease. Body density and body fat measurements - skinfolds, bioelectric impedance, body-line scanning and plethysmography. Indirect calorimetry practical. Anthropometry practical and data analysis. Applying anthropometric and energy expenditure measurements in clinical settings. Dietary assessment.
It is a requirement that this module is taken with MEDC0039 Research Methods for Clinical and Public Health Nutrition
