Description
Nanotechnology has applications across all fields of engineering, and every application has implications for society. Recognising that nanotechnology may raise distinctive ethical and social issues - now, and in the future - research councils and funding bodies increasingly insist on the integration of social and ethical studies into nanotechnology developments from their very beginning. Such studies can guide manufacturers and governments to make better decisions when deploying a new technology, help provide policymakers and the general public with a realistic picture free of unreasonable hopes or fears, and even inspire new thinking.
