In this team-taught module, students will learn about the functions and practical considerations of contemporary publishing professionals and the organisational structures of the companies for which they work. They will consider the praxis of literary production at each stage of a book’s development lifecycle, engaging with a spectrum of creative, legal and economic tasks which come together under the banner of Book Publishing. This module runs in the Autumn term with a portfolio submission at the end of term 1.
By the end of this module, students will have:
knowledge of the operations and roles in a contemporary publishing company, and a broad set of transferable management skills in the industry
examined all aspects of book publication in an online and offline world.
developed a nuanced appreciation of the value of communication skills throughout the publishing chain.
an appreciation for intellectual property and copyright.
developed a basic understanding and ability in utilising various tools and software employed in contemporary publishing.
