Description
This module has been established to ensure that students can write at Masters level and can analyse texts to a sufficient depth as to establish relevant content for their individual programme of study. The vehicle for this is an introduction to key urban design theoretical concepts so that these can be taken forward in Terms 2 and 3. The course is taught in Term 1. These concepts are varied but specific to the cluster鈥檚 research for that year. This module is structured so that the first term introduces you to theoretical concepts through lectures and initial design projects. During this period, you will confirm the subject of you thesis project and report and then work in specialist teaching groups, known as Research Clusters. There is continuous discussion of work via tutorials and reviews. The subject of the thesis is negotiated between you and your cluster tutor.
The module will give students an introduction to the skills required to undertake a theoretical, cultural and historical study at postgraduate level into the issues that underpin the study of urban design, and to introduce them to appropriate lines of investigation. You will gain knowledge of the theoretical and historical issues that underpin the study of urban design in addition to a greater understanding of the skills required to undertake a theoretical and historical study at postgraduate level, specifically, how to undertake a literature search and how to construct an appropriate bibliography
