  1. Intermediate Norwegian (SCAN0019)

Description

Module description

The module aims to build up and improve the students’ existing knowledge of Norwegian (Bokmål), to enable them to read Norwegian texts, understand everyday conversations, and express themselves well enough in speech and writing to cope with life at a Norwegian university in their third year. Besides using the chosen textbook and workbook (Mer norsk), students will work a variety of original texts (newspaper articles, short essays, websites, blogs, short documentaries, and film clips) to strengthen their written and oral comprehension skills. Texts will form the basis of class discussion. Written tasks will be assigned as homework from week to week to consolidate the vocabulary encountered in class. Student participation is essential and there will be conversation and discussion of general topics, plus translation and listening comprehension.

Two two-hour seminars per week over one term, consisting of tutor- and student-led discussions, pair and group work, and individual student presentations. Written tasks will be assigned as homework from week to week to consolidate the vocabulary, enhance translation and listening and reading comprehension skills. UCL Moodle platform will be used as a main repository for all course materials, as well as for assignments and forum discussions.
