Since the end of the Cold War, the world has become increasingly interconnected, giving rise to a series of new problems that are truly global in scope: climate change, terrorism, trafficking, migration, pandemics, social media, international trade, cross-border genocide, etc. Similarly, there is a dizzying array of international forces that seek to control, harness or exploit global challenges, ranging from transnational corporations to international non-government organisations to trade organizations and regional alliances. This module will provide students with an overview of the core challenges facing the international community and the attempts being made to solve them in an unprecedented era of globalisation and interconnectedness.
