Description
The GED module is designed to develop understanding of the circumstances in low- and middle-income countries under which gender affects rights to, rights in and rights through education. Through the GED module, students examine the gendered dimensions of processes of teaching and learning, sexual divisions in education, and the gendered political economy of family, work, political action and cultural production. During the module sessions, particular attention is given to gender and violence in and around school settings, the impact of crises (including pandemics, climate and conflict) on forms of gender inequality and education and vice-versa, the links between gender and education policy and practice, and the education-related experiences of the most marginalised groups or communities, especially girls and women. Throughout the module there is a concern to generate new understandings of gender sensitive strategies and alternative, transformative approaches in education to overcome gender-related social divisions, inequalities and injustices.
