Description

This module is designed to give you a thorough grasp of the main theories, tools, methods and techniques of financial management, health economics and healthcare analytics. This approach includes the development of a critical understanding of the advantages, limitations and typical applications of each major method or technique in terms of application in a healthcare setting and practice. You will be encouraged to develop critical analysis and evaluation skills for financial management problems and issues.

Moreover you will gain an appreciation of the role of financial information and data analysis within an organisation. This will include an identification of approaches to financial and accounting data generation, data manipulation, data assessment, analysis and dissemination. There will be a focus on the role of healthcare data in analysing performance and evaluating innovations in the wider context.

There will also be two weeks devoted to key economic concepts such as elasticity of demand, costs, competition, pricing profit maximisation and causal inference. Ìý

This module runs over eight weeks with two weeks devoted to each theme:

  • Accounting and Financial Reporting
  • Health Economics
  • Healthcare data analytics
  • Wrap up

Wrap up week is dedicated to engaging with the key concepts that were covered over the previous weeks, and will solidify the application of these themes to health and healthcare.

The overarching aim of the module is to teach theories and practices of financial management, economicsÌýand managing in a data-rich world.

This module will enable you to integrate and apply the knowledge, approaches and methods you have learned to a variety of financial decisions and you own management and experience.

You will also appreciate the role of financial information within a knowledge-based economy.ÌýÌýThis will include identification of approaches to financial and performance data generation, data manipulation, data assessment, analysis and dissemination.
