Description
This is an introductory module to evidence based dental practice. The module is designed to provide students with a thorough understanding of the principles of evidence based practice and their implementation. This includes current concepts of dental diseases and methods of prevention. A key element of the module is equipping students with the skills to critically appraise the scientific literature.
After taking this module, students will have developed:Ìý
- An appreciation of principles and implementation of evidence based practice
- Up to date knowledge of the aetiology of dental diseases and the evidence base for preventive strategies
- The skills required to critically appraise scientific papers.
This module is open to students registered on the MSc Dental Public Health.
Students attend a series of lectures in Term 3 of the academic year. Critical appraisal skills will be practiced during interactive seminars throughout the year involving the discussion and appraisal of published journal articles.
