Description
This compulsory module for students enrolled on both the MSc Conservation and MSc Aquatic Conservation, Ecology and Restoration programmes focuses strongly on the numerical and statistical analysis of complex environmental datasets. It is linked to the “Scientific Basis for Freshwater and Coastal Conservation” (GEOG0108)-module and uses data derived from locations (in North Norfolk, Eastern England) that are a key focus for this later course. It also contains components focused on invertebrate identification as well as water-chemical analysis.
Given the strong statistical components contained in this module,it is greatly beneficial for students to have at least a basic understanding of univariate statistics. In the framework of the module, you will acquirestrong additional insights into some multivariate statistical approaches.
This understanding and ability to create, use and interpret multivariate statisticaloutput also represents a great general career skill. Additional career skills linked to this module include team working, ecological and environmental surveying, working in a laboratory environment, time management and critical thinking skills.
