Description
This module provides an overview of the basic principles of treatment and clinical skills relevant to all aspects of Endodontics:
- Patient assessment and treatment planning;
- Rationale and procedures of endodontic treatment;
- Control and management of endodontic operatory and patient;
- Case documentation and presentation;
It provides tutor and student led skills-laboratory exercises on simulation and ex-vivo models designed to evaluate, coach and develop neuro-motor skills relevant to endodontics, including operative technique, hand-piece control, mental visualisation, tactile skills, treatment protocol, use of contemporary equipment.
The module also oversees the translation of above knowledge and technical skills into the clinic through supervised patient management. Graduates learn through treating patients in a real-life (clinic) supervised learning environment. Active learning is encouraged through pre-treatment case discussions with clinical supervisors, allowing post-treatment case management feed-back through maintained log-books. Integration of academic and clinical learning is achieved through case conferences on selected learning-rich cases.
