Description

Everything about a business (or other types of organisations) is designed. The products and services it offers, how it appears to potential customers, the way it organizes its activities, its vision and strategy – all of it is designed.

Designed objects, services and environments are all around us and successful organisations are attentive about when to invest resources in design and the management of design. Design approaches can also be used to understand and address key challenges facing organisations, communities and society.

This module provides students with an opportunity to explore design thinking as a distinctive approach to problem solving, and its applications to the development of new products and services, and the search for solution to social issues.

The module is taught partly through hands on exploration of design methods and approaches, complemented by readings, class discussion and guest speakers. During the module, students will work in teams to learn key techniques for design thinking in the context of a real project.
