Description
This module will look at the creation and capture of records and information within organisations in the course of their business. It will introduce students to records management approaches and techniques that can be applied to information created, received and used by organisations in a world of rapidly-changing digital technology. It sets records management in a wider risk, compliance and ethical context. It will consider who are the stakeholders in the creation of records, how records management processes can become human centred, and the ways in which records management can uphold social justice orientated work. In addition, it will establish and reflect on the records management responsibilities and accountabilities set within archives.
By the end of the module, students will be able to understand the role of a records management programme within an organisation, manage current and non-current records systems using professional techniques, understand the challenges of digital records and develop strategies for their management, and design systems for the retention and disposition of records. Be able to critically evaluate records management processes probing societal needs and information boundaries.
