Module Content
The module gives students an overview of bilingual and multilingual phenomena and theories of bilingual and multilingual acquisition. It will help students to understand the cognitive structures and processes involved when multiple languages are available to an individual. The course will also introduce students to some psycholinguistic research methods, such as priming and eye-tracking, as these are applied in research on bilingualism and multilingualism.
Teaching Delivery
This module is taught in 10 weekly lectures and 10 weekly PGTA-led seminars.

The main module aims are:
听听听 To provide students with an overview of bilingual and multilingual phenomena and theories of bilingual and multilingual acquisition.
听听听 To provide an overview of experimental psycholinguistics methodology and to show how these methods are applied in research on bilingualism and multilingualism.

听听听 To understanding the fundamentals of bi/multilingual language development.
听听听 To read and understand primary literature in bi/multilingualism research.
听听听 To evaluate competing claims about the nature of bi/multilingual phenomena.
听听听 To become familiar with psycholinguistic methods as applied to bi/multilingualism.
听听听 To evaluate outcomes of experimental bi/multilingual research in relation to common hypotheses and research questions in the field.
