Description
This module will be run in partnership with the Zoological Society of London and will draw on contributions from other partners/organisations. The aim of the module is to give students the opportunity to hear from and engage in discussion with conservation professionals working on applied programmes. The focus will be on how science is applied in real-world settings, drawing on the theory and pratice of structured decision-making. The module will draw on contributions from a wide range of lecturers who will give seminars and run workshops and discussions. Example topics include:
• evidence, uncertainty and decision-making • balancing competing interests • working with people • bringin threatened species back from the brink of extinction • biodiversity monitoring • co-existence between wildlife and people • wildlife health
Assessment will be via a term essay. The module will provide an opportunity for students to meet with potential supervisors for their research projects.
