Content: Psychology- the study of human behaviour - relates to everything that we do in our daily lives and so is relevant in many other academic contexts. Although this module is designed as an introduction for students in the Biological Sciences, it also forms a general introduction to psychology for all students seeking an elective module in psychology and who feel that introductory psychology may enhance their learning in their primary field.

Teaching delivery: This module is taught via 20 hours of in-person lectures (usually in the format of a two-hour block each week for 10 weeks). There is also a weekly study group, where the cohort is arranged into smaller groups of students. As a group you will make a joint submission for the summative assessment. The submission will be a presentation about a selection of key concepts of your choosing from the lecture series. Each week you are expected to meet (online) with your group to discuss the contents of the lecture and ideas for your presentation. You are expected to keep a weekly log of ideas which you will submit as evidence of your participation.

Module Aims: In this module we aim to equip you with knowledge to understand introductory psychology. We will discuss a selection of key topics in psychology, with emphasis on biological aspects of psychology and on cognitive psychology. By the end of the module you should:

- Have basic knowledge of several key areas in psychology.

- Have an idea how psychological research is conducted.

- Have some experience relating psychology back to your primary field.
