Description

Content: This module will cover in some detail theories and research on issues currently topical in Organisational Psychology from job motivation, leadership and stress to the future of work. The module provides a critical, up-to-date overview of the theorising and research in organisational psychology and familiarises students with the literature on aspects of behaviour in the work-place.

Teaching delivery: This module is taught in 15 hours of in-person lectures spread over 10 teaching weeks (usually in the format of 5 1-hour lectures in one half of term and 5 2-hour sessions in the other half of term).

Indicative Topics: Indicative lecture topics – based on module content in 2023/24, subject to possible changes: What is Organisational Psychology, Personality, Selection & Assessment, Motivation, Work Ethic, Unemployment, Stress & Culture and Leadership.

Module Aims: This module aims to:

  • Provide an introduction and overview of each topic, to understand what current questions are asked and why.
  • Introduce some of the major theories in the area and evaluate them independently.
  • Evaluate existing and new methodology and technology for studying behaviour in the work place.
  • Consider, in detail, important recent studies and meta-analyses in some of the areas that are at the heart of organisational psychology like selection, motivation, leadership etc.
